The HIP investment process weights higher HIP-rated firms with a higher weight, and lower HIP-rated firms with a lesser weight. HIP excludes any firm related to fossil-fuel production; and excludes firms with a very low HIP Rating.

The HIP Fossil Fuel Free Diversified Portfolio enables investors an easy way to avoid fossil-fuel production, and invest in a more environmentally friendly future.
This portfolio invests in mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) holding dozens to hundreds of stocks, bonds, and securities around the world. Every fund is analyzed and only included if the investees are free of coal, oil and gas producers; free of oil or gas pipelines; and other firms that are related to fossil fuel production.
(Unfortunately, many firms still consume fossil fuels in transportation, manufacturing, and everyday life; this portfolio seeks out funds with leaders in energy efficiency, water efficiency, and lower carbon emissions.)
